Imphal, July 13 2015 :
As decided at an official meeting presided by Education Minister M Okendro, schools and colleges located in greater Imphal areas which were closed following intense agitation by students for enforcement of ILPS or a similar system in the State would be re-opened from July 16 provided the prevailing situation improves in the next couple of days.
The meeting also discussed about deployment of security teams at schools and colleges so that leaders of protest movements cannot mobilize students easily.
The meeting held at the conference hall of SSA State Mission Authority, Babupara was attended by high ranking officials of School Education and Higher Education Departments as well as representatives of DESAM, MSF, KSA and other student bodies.
Speaking at the meeting, M Okendro said that the death of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School student Sapam Robinhood was a tragedy, He said that he could not bear physical assault on students in the course of protest movements.
As the people's protest movements have not subsided properly and curfew is still there, it would be premature to take a hasty decision on re-opening educational institutions, he added.
Nonetheless, the situation is likely to improve in the next couple of days.
Till then, parents must wait before sending students back to their schools and colleges, Okendro said.
Education (S) Secretary H Deleep appealed to all concerned to keep educational institutions untouched in the course of any protest movement as the process of education is not something which can be suspended or resumed at someone's convenience.
