Imphal, April 06 2017:
The plan to revise the rate of rice grains distributed to beneficiaries under National Food and Security Act has been dropped and the rate will remain the same, said an official source.
The normal rate under NFSA is Rs 3 per Kg of rice.
Initially, the Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution (CAF&PD) Manipur had planned to keep the original rate till March this year.
The source pointed out that the Government of India had planned to revise the existing rate of rice as it is an expensive process to provide such a huge subsidy to the beneficiaries.
It further stated that the rice quota for April, which would normally have been stocked in March, was put on hold as the Government of India had hinted a revised amount for the subsidy but had not yet announced the specific rate.
The Government of India has assured that the rate would remain unchanged and notified the Department to deposit the required funds within 15 days for processing the rice quota for the month of April, it added.
