Imphal, April 06 2017:
Upper Primary teachers (SSA) who have been suddenly laid off their service today urged Chief Minister N Biren to give a clear position of the State Government regarding their service.
A number of Upper Primary teachers gathered at MDU Hall today under the banner of the Upper Primary Teachers (SSA) 2016 Welfare Association and marched toward the Chief Minister's official residence to lodge a complaint.
Even as they were blocked by police on the way, four representatives of the association were allowed to proceed and meet the Chief Minister.
The association's joint secretary Keisham Deben said that the Directorate of Education (S) appointed 389 teachers on mark basis on December 31 last year.
They were given appointment letters on January 3 this year and they appended their signatures on attendance register at the office of the Directorate for three days.
However, the newly appointed teachers were barred from signing on the attendance register all of a sudden and they were not given their posting.
Now the election is over and a new Government has been formed.
As such, the new Government ought to give a clear position regarding the fate of the 389 teachers.
The association would be compelled to launch all kinds of agitation if the State Government does not come out with a definite response by tomorrow, Deben added.
