Mysterious death of Babysana : CBI submits 2nd monthly investigation report

CBI Special Crime Branch, Kolkata, submitted their 2nd monthly investigation status report to the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Imphal West today, stating that some reliable secret information relevant to the investigation into the mysterious death of Ningthoujam Babysana inside the hostel of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School Canchipur on July 18 last year, have been collected and they will be duly inves-tigated.
The CBI report mentioned that in compliance with the directive of the High Court of Manipur on November 6 last year, a regular case was registered by CBI SCB, Kolkata, on December 4 (2019) against the authorities of Standard Robarth Residential Block, girls hostel and others, by treating the Singjamei PS FIR as the original FIR of the case.
It continued that efforts were made to ensure a visit by a team of experts from Central Forensic Science Laboratory, New Delhi, to the scene of the crime and a detailed letter was issued regarding the visit.
In response, a plan was made for a team of CFSL New Delhi, under the leadership of M Bardhan, to visit the site and collect evidence, the CBI report mentioned adding that further preparation for re-creation of the crime scene is still in progress.
It informed that intimation has been sent to the school authorities of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, the Imphal West SP and Babysana's father to be present on February 15 during the joint visit of CBI and CFSL, New Delhi to the spot where the incident occurred.
CBI also approached the Chief Secretary, Manipur, to arrange psychologist/psychiatrist to prepare the children/inmates of the school so that they are not inconvenienced while giving their statement, and also to provide a suitable interpreter to the CBI for assis- ting in the investigation.
The CBI report mentioned that during the course of investigation, 4 witnesses, which included the father of the deceased, a complainant of the case, the first IO of Singjamei PS and the Chief IO of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted in connection with the case by Manipur police, were examined and their statements were recorded.
Furthermore, the contact numbers/names of the employees of the school and the family members of the Principal, were collected and a request has also been made to the Chief Secretary to provide logistic support for establishing a camp in Imphal for the purpose of the investigation, the report said, before claiming that a few reliable secret information relevant to the investigation, have also been collected and those will be duly investigated.
It may be mentioned that the first progress report of the investigation was submitted on January 1 this year detailing the progress during the period from December 6 last year to January.
It was accepted by the Court on January 3.
