Imphal, February 04 2020:
Most of the construction works of Manipur Bhavan located at Salt Lake, West Bengal have been completed but it is not yet clear when the establishment will become functional.
It may be mentioned that the foundation stone of the Manipur Bvavan at Salt Lake, was laid more than 15 years ago under the aegis of the General Administrative Department (GAD), Manipur but the construction work was put on hold for many years.
The construction work resumed only around 3 years ago.
The Bhavan, which can accommodate around a 100 people at once (including VIPs), is also located not far away from Kolkata airport, which is a huge boon for the people of the State who are travelling to Kolkata, mainly students, patients etc.
However, now, construction works of the Bhavan (with PWD Manipur as the implementing agency) might be put on hold again due to the failure of the State Government to sanction necessary funds.
Pointing out that the initial plan was to make the Manipur Bhavan completely functional by last year, a source from the Building Division of PWD Manipur, conveyed that most of the construction works which were started during the pre-sanction phases, have been completed.
The source informed that the Manipur Bhawan is a G+7 building, with a length of 32 meters and width of 17 meters and has a basement parking facility, and added that only the finishing touches are left.
Those include installation of doors and windows, construction of driveways, security barrack, wall paintings, glazing, traditional murals etc.
The civil works will cost around Rs 8 crore while the electro-mechanical works will cost around Rs 16 crore, the source added.
The State Government needs to sanction a total amount of Rs 24 crore for these works but the amount has not been sanctioned yet.
Nonetheless, a proposal has already been sent regarding the same.
If the funds are sanctioned, then due tender process would be initiated to select a work agency which would complete the remaining portions, the source added.
