Imphal, November 01 2020:
BJP Manipur Pradesh has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take up strong action against Congress party and one Congress candidate for playing the communal card.
Speaking to media persons today, BJP Manipur Pradesh chief spokesman Ch Bijoy said that Congress party has been playing communal politics in the run up to the by-election scheduled on November 7, quite contrary to its own claim that it is a secular party.
At an election meeting held at the Samurou residence of Congress candidate Salam Joy, Congress party's chief whip Govindas Konthoujam said that BJP has been oppressing Muslims by grooming Hindu gangs.
This particular statement is highly objectionable and communal, Bijoy decried.
As much as he is ignorant of the welfare programmes taken up by the NDA Government, Govindas Konthoujam has been playing communal card, charged Bijoy.
For the welfare of Muslim community, a whopping amount of Rs 22,000 crore has been sanctioned under the Prime Minister Jan Vikas Karyakram.
Out of this, Rs 3.2 crore is being utilised in providing formal education to Muslim boys and girls.
Loan facilities are also extended to Muslim artisans, Bijoy said.
Asking if there is any logic in AICC Manipur in-charge Bhakta Charandas' statement that the BJP Government has failed abjectly in bringing COVID-19 pandemic under control in Manipur, Bijoy pointed out that the pandemic cannot be controlled yet in many States where BJP is not in power.
Reacting to Salam Joy's assertion that a large number of police personnel have been stationed at Wangoi without any reason, the BJP chief spokesman said that adequate strength of police force has been stationed at Wangoi to prevent politics of 'goonda raj' .
Former Congress MLA turned BJP man and now Agriculture Minister Oinam Lukhoi is the BJP candidate at Wangoi AC .
