Imphal, January 27 2023:
Citing prevailing dry season, Divisional Forest Officer of Kangpokpi Forest Division has banned setting fire in any areas under Kan-glatongbi-Kangpokpi Reserved Forests (Koubru) under Kangpokpi Forest Division.
An order issued by the Division on Thursday stated that there is a ban on the wilful setting of fire and cautioned of taking action against the person(s) concerned if fire occurs in any forest areas.
The order notified to the public that during the prolonged dry spell accompanied by strong wind, the occurrence of forest wildfires has become a common phenomenon in the district and state.
It specified that camping, picnicking, trekking, expedition, gathering, etc., inside the reserved forest areas are some causes of forest fire and informed that section 26 of the Indian Forest Act, 1927 prohibits setting fire and trespassing inside Reserved Forest areas.
As such, the order cautioned the public against all unauthorised activities inside the Kanglatongbi-Kangpokpi reserved forest until further order.
