A criminal appeal petition filed by National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with bail orders granted by Special Judge, NIA to three persons of SALAI Group of companies has been dismissed by the High Court of Manipur.
The cril appeal petition was filed before the High Court of Manipur by NIA represented by its Chief Investigation Officer against Narengbam Biswajit (54) s/o late Jugindro of Tera Loukrakpam Leikai, Akoijam Deepa Anand (45) s/o late Nandalala of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai and Elangbam Brojendro s/o late Bhubaneshwor Singh of Keisamthong Elangbam Leikai.
The hearing of the cril appeal petition was held today before a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice PV Sanjay Kumar and Justice MV Muralidaran.
The petition was filed by the NIA in connection with the bail orders granted by the Special Judge (NIA), Manipur in December 2020 to Narengbam Biswajit Singh, Akoijam Deepa Anand and Elangbam Brojendro.
The Court observed that, in the light of this development, the cril appeal petition filed against the grant of bail to Narengbam Biswajit Singh, Akoijam Deepa Anand and Elangbam Brojendro did not survive for consideration.
Thus the Division Bench dismissed the NIA petition.
In connection with the case of declaring independence of Manipur from India, the NIA had registered a case as per an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs and submitted a charge sheet before the Court after investigating the case.
The Special Court, NIA Manipur on November 24 last year had framed charges against SALAI Managing Director Narengbam Samarjit under UA(P) Act and 120 B IPC for criminal conspiracy and discharged Narengbam Biswajit Singh, Akoijam Deepa Anand and Elangbam Brojendro from the case during the charge hearing.
It may also be mentioned that N Samarjit and Yambem Biren had formed a 'de jure' Manipur Government on October 29, 2019 in London after declaring independence of Manipur from India.
N Samarjit had proclaimed himself as the self-styled External Affairs and Defence Minister of the de jure Government based in London and Yambem Biren as the Chief Minister.
