Tributes paid to Gaidinliu

Manipur paid tributes to freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu on her 108th birth anniversary, yesterday.
Governor La Ganesan and Chief Minister N Biren Singh led the people in paying floral tributes to the statue of the late freedom fighter at Rani Gaidinliu Park at Mantripukhri.
Speaking at the anniversary celebration, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that Rani Gaidinliu taking a big role in fighting against the British for independent Manipur is a historical fact.
In recognition of her role in the freedom movement, the Union Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been taking up a number of steps to propagate her name, he said.
Saying that the State Government will organize her birth anniversary as a State function from next year onwards, the Chief Minister maintained that Rs 15 crore has already been sanctioned to develop a memorial in her birthplace Nungkao in Tamenglong district.
Unfortunately, this development work is being delayed by some issues, the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister continued that every Manipuri needs to remember leaders like Haipou Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu for their contributions.
He also sought cooperation from the people in taking up development works.
Former Union Minister of State Professor Meijinlung Kamson spoke on Rani Gaidinliu's early life and her struggle for independence.
Ministers, MLAs, representatives of Civil Society Organisations, women leaders from across the State attended the celebration.
Earlier, Kabui Mothers' Association (KAMA) submitted a memorandum to develop Rani Gaidinliu Park.
Cultural dances were also shown as a part of the celebration.
The birth anniversary of Rani Gaidinliu was also celebrated by Kabui Union, Manipur, Zeliangrong Students' Union, Delhi (ZSUD) and Zeliangrong Welfare Association, Delhi (ZWAD) .
In a press release jointly issued by ZSUD and and ZWAD said that a webinar was organised to commemorate the 108th birth anniversary of Rani Gaidinliu.
Dr.Achingliu Kamei, Associate Professor, Department of English, ARSD College, University of Delhi spoke on "Life Lessons from Rani Gaidinliu's Extraordinary Life".
She also shared her happiness on the Padma Shri 2023 being conferred on Ramkuiwangbe Newme (follower of Rani Gaidinliu) from Assam in Social Work (Culture).
The webinar was attended by several Zeliangrong people from across India.
The Kabui Union, Manipur observed the birth anniversary at Sawombung and paid floral tributes to the photo of the freedom fighter.
Members of different Kabui organisations attended the programme.
