Imphal, January 27 2023:
Manipur State Panchayat Parishad (MSPP) has cautioned of staging protests in the nation's capital and submitting complaints to the Prime Minister and the Union RD&PR minister if the state government fail to clear the pending wages of job card holders amounting to a total of Rs 700 crore by January 31 .
Addressing a press meet at MSPP's office, here, on Friday, its president Md Abdul Latif informed that a meeting of Panchayati Raj In stitutions (PRIs) was held on Friday, wherein various issues plaguing the Institutions were discussed.
He said that the term for the rep resentatives elected through the 5th General Panchayat polls lapsed on October 24 last.
Although the CM and the RD&PR minister were requested to hold the 6th Panchayat elections before the expiry of the term and assurances were given on the same, no action was taken up.
Instead of the holding the elections, the government proposed setting up a committee and appointing an administrator for proper functioning of PRIs, which is appreciated.
However, the government should form the committee after clearing the pending wages of job card holders.
The non-clear-ance is delaying the submission of UC, which in turn is delaying the expenses for the material costs for both the hills and the valley.
As such, he appealed to the government to clear the total pending wages of Rs 700 crore at the earliest.
Cautioning of staging protest in New Delhi and apprising the PM and the Union RD&PR minister of the same if the state government does not take up requisite action by January 31; Md Abdul Latif informed that the protests will be staged in collaboration with the MGNREGS implementation agencies of 2021-22 and National Panchayat Parishad.
