Ukhrul, June 22 2022:
After three days of impatient wait, power supply has been finally restored in Ukhrul district on Wednesday evening.
Power supply was fully restored in the district around 6:30 pm Wednesday amid thunderous shouts of delight.
Major parts of the district had plunged into complete darkness for the last four days after heavy rains and storms uprooted double electric poles at Shimtang village on the intervening night of June 18 and 19, the day Father's Day was celebrated.
Following the damage, power had been cut off in the entire region covered by the 132/33 KV sub-station of Hundung via Shimtang village, including the main town areas.
Both Manipur State Power Corporation Limited (MSPCL) and Manipur State Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MSPDCL), Ukhrul Division had pressed their manpower into action at the affected site and subsequently restoration works continued since June 20.It is learnt that the storm-affected site falls under the jurisdiction of MSPCL whose manpower is not stationed in the district.
A team of MSPCL, which had travelled from Imphal, was assisted by a team of MSPDCL Ukhrul Division in restoring the power supply.
