Police debate on human rights

An open debate competition for personnel of Manipur Police was held today at the Banquet Hall of 1st MR on the topic, 'Enforcement of human rights is a hindrance to counter-insurgency operation' .
The event was organised by Manipur Police Training College under the auspices of National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi.
14 police personnel moved the topic while 13 personnel were opposers.
DGP LM Khaute, Addl DG KT Vaiphei and other high ranking police officers attended the competition.
Addressing the inaugural session, DGP LM Khaute said that no one can violate the rights of an individual.
It is unfortunate that cases of human rights violation are galore in a restive and insurgency affected State like Manipur.
The Manipur Police is committed to respect and protect human rights and it has done so.
It is also important for the police personnel to abide by the rules and regulations, Khaute said.
Delivering the keynote address, Director of MPTC Kh Chandramani said that the debate competition will give more insight on ways and means to protect human rights.
He also exuded confidence that awareness on human rights will increase among the personnel through such event.
Addl DGP KT Vaiphei was the speaker and chairman of the competition.
IGP (Zone-III) T Guite, IGP (Zone-II) L Kailun, DIG (Range-II) Dr S Ibocha Singh and SP (VIP Security) E Priyokumar Singh were the panel of jurists.
