Lynching case settled

The case of a man who was lynched by a mob last night over an alleged rape attempt has turned out to be a false allegation as the village authority of Muolvaiphei and Hmar Inpui today admitted before Mizo Peoples' Convention Zone I, YMA Chiengkonpang branch and MZP Chiengkonpang branch that they were at fault.
Sources said the two sides representing the mob at Muolvaiphei and the victim's family met early today at the residence of Chiengkonpang's village chief wherein the former has accepted responsibility with the latter accepting their traditional apology.
The two sides have also issued a joint statement.
It is also learnt that the VA of Muolvaiphei and the Hmar Inpui have agreed to compensate the family of Lalkhumlien with Rs 3 lakh within 10 days besides fulfilling several traditional liabilities demanded by the victim's family.
The lifeless body of Lalkhumlien was claimed in the afternoon around 2.30 today and laid to rest at YMA Chiengkonpang cemetery.
