Imphal, August 25 2014:
In line with the ongoing agitations demanding implementation of ILPS in the State, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has started verification of Non-Manipuris residing in the State.
The State has not, as such, made any arrangements to check or verify identity cards of non-locals coming to the State.
Talking to mediapersons, JCILPS women wing convenor L Nganbi said that the committee undertook the drive as a protest against the State's indifference towards the increasing influx of non-locals into the State.
The team which inspected rented houses in Poana bazar area today found non-locals residing without identity cards while some were found in possession of fake IDs.
They were then informed to report to JCILPS office, Nganbi said.

Police forces attempted interference in the drive, Nganbi continued.
They, however continued with the drive and also directed three non-Manipuris from vending any merchandise in the vicinity of the three women market complexes of Kwairamband Keithel.
On the other hand, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System Student Wing (JCILPSSW) threatened to close down bakeries of Imphal area if the concerned Government authority fails to look into the matter of violation of food safety guidelines within seven days.
JCILPSSW convenor Moirangthem Angamba said that the committee continued their inspection drive at Payal Bhujiya, Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai, BK Store, Thangmeiband, Om Shakti, Thangmeiband, Thangmeiband Polem Leikai, Karanti Ladu, Kangjabi Leirak, Puja Bakery, Kangjabi Leirak, Shathi Bakery, Babupara, Melen BS Super Babupara, Sanju Bakery Babupara, Dev Bhujiya Babupara, Sompar Babupara and Emma Bakery, Babupara.
All these bakeries neither have licence nor abide by the guidelines of food safety, Angamba said.
During the inspection drive, bakery items were found scattered on unclean floor, repackaging expired items and using dirty water, Angamba said.
Moreover, floors of some bakeries were swampy and had full of inspects and mosquitoes, he said and added that it was also found that one of the bakeries had latrine inside their bakery.
He questioned why neither the Food Safety authority nor the house owner raised finger against such malpractices happening right under their nose and hazardous to health of the general public.
In this regard, Angamba said, house owners must act as a responsible citizen in checking whether the workers are healthy and have necessary licence to run a bakery.
Moreover, Angamba said JCILPSSW would close down all these bakeries if the Food Safety authority fails to look into the matter within seven days.
