Imphal, August 25 2014:
Although Education Minister M Okendro had promised the public to bring a change in education sector, Senjam Chirang Government Primary School does not see any such change till date as the school is being run by a single teacher.
The matter came to light during an inspection drive conducted by the local clubs of Senjam Chirang and Sekmai Protection Committee at the schools and health centres of these areas today.
Although Senjam Chirang Government Primary School, which has Class-I to V, has two teachers, the school is being functioned in a single room by one teacher as another teacher has been on maternity leave since April this year.
The teacher said that the school had six teachers some years back, but it has been reduced to a single teacher school after all other teachers were transferred to other schools and utilised in other works by the Government.
A villager told reporters accompanying the inspection team that the matter has been complained to the ZEO and local MLA repeatedly, but no action has been initiated so far.
Later, SPC members inspected Nila Padma Government High School, where classrooms, school fencing and chowkidar quarter were found in a dilapidated state.
In the school, computers were found gathering dust.
Afterwards, the team visited Sekmai Community Health Centre.
While ward rooms and toilets were in a deteriorated condition, the CHC did not have proper arrangement to check scattering of medical solid waste material.
After the inspection drive, SPC spokesperson urged the Government to depute adequate teachers to Senjam Chirang Govt Primary School and look into the inadequacies of Nila Padma High School and CHC Sekmai.
He said that computer sets are lying unused as the school does not have computer teacher.
Urging the Government to complete construction of CHC building at the earliest, he also demanded that proper and clean toilets be provided to the CHC.
