Imphal, May 19 2020:
At a time when public and civil society organisations are urging the Government to competently run quarantine centres in the State, a disturbing incident has come to light leaving many questioning the authorities concerned responsible for running the centres.
Quarantine centre at Akampat Primary Health Centre, Imphal East was recently rocked by a ruckus after some locals were allegedly caught drinking inside the campus, reported sources.
The incident happened on May 16 night, when commotion broke out between two groups who claimed to be volunteers over some locals consuming alcohol inside the campus which is housing a quarantine facility for Thongju AC .
While the commotion disturbed the people quarantined at the PHC, many of the locals have raised serious questions regarding the quarantine protocol enforced at the centre.
Such incident may compromise the safety measures being taken and put public at risk, said some.
Meanwhile, the matter has been "settled" with the district Superintendent of Police intervening, said sources.
When contacted the SP concerned, he informed that the persons involved in the incident are all locals and volunteers of the quarantine centre.
"The matter has been settled.
Strict action will be taken up against those creating such ruckus in future," he said.
