PHED bifurcated into two

With a view to galvanise its functioning, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) has been bifurcated into two wings namely PHED (Urban) and PHED (Rural) .
As decided at a Cabinet meeting held on June 26, PHED Secretary Nidhi Kesarwani issued an order on July 13 whereby PHED was bifurcated into PHED (Urban) and PHED (Rural).
The incumbent Chief Engineer of the department is the head of the urban wing while the Additional Chief Engineer would be in charge of the rural wing.
The PHED Secretary has also issued a separate order whereby the Additional Chief Engineer has been given full power of a head of department for PHED (Rural).
The main tasks of the department are planning, investigation, execution and maintenance of water supply schemes.
The department is also in charge of Imphal Sewerage Project and Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), informed a source.
As per the order issued by the PHED Secretary yesterday, the Chief Engineer (Urban) would be assisted by the Engineer Officer and Surveyor of Works.
Likewise, the Additional Chief Engineer (Rural) would be assisted by Surveyor of Works and Engineer Assistant/Assistant Surveyor of Works.
However, other posts like Administrative Officer, Deputy Financial Advisor, Finance Officer and State Laboratory would be common for both the wings.
Communication and Capacity Development Unit (CCDU) would be put under the control of Additional Chief Engineer (Rural) .
The Chief Engineer (Urban) will look after Mechanical & Electrical PHE Division, Monitoring and Evaluation PHE Division, Investigation Planning & Design Division No 1, Water Supply Store Division, Water Supply Maintenance Division No 1, Water Supply Maintenance Division No II, Project Construction Division and Drainage and Sewerage Division, informed the source.
