Orgs condemn Moreh attacks, demand stringent action against perpetrators

After unknown armed assailants fired at at least three residential houses in Gamnom Veng, Ward No 2, Moreh in the wee hours of Friday, many organisations have condemned and denounced the attack which have caused fear and havoc in the border town.
According to reports from police sources, the attacks occurred at 2 am Friday on three residential houses belong to Thongkhomang Touthang, Chongkhulun Lhungdim and (L) Onkholet Haokip.
One lathod bomb reportedly exploded on the roof of Chongkhulun Lhungdim's house.
Apart from some damages to properties, vehicles etc there have been no reports of any casualty in the incident.
Police have recovered used ammunitions and two unexploded lathod bombs from residence of (L) Onkholet Haokip.
One bomb was found inside his residence while the other unexploded lathod bomb was found just outside his residence.
Bomb experts have safely detonated the bombs near Haolenphai village, said sources.
Following the incident, many organisations including the Thadou Students' Association, General Headquarters (TSA-GHQ) has condemned attacks in the strongest term.
Condemning the incident, a statement issued by Kamsanglen Singsit, secretary Information & Publicity, TSA also claimed that the attackers also assaulted M Paokhogin Haokip, Lambu, ADC Moreh.
According to TSA, the residential house of one Thongminlun Haokip, president of TSA Moreh block was attacked.
Thongminlun Haokip, his pregnant wife and two children below five years have been traumatised by the attack, said the association condemning the attack on civilians.
TSA further condemned the security forces stationed 'only half a kilometres away' for not responding in time to counter and neutralise the attackers.
The unprovoked firing and bombing lasted for more than 45 minutes, there is ample to for the security forces to respond, said the TSA.
The attackers must clarify to the public and claim responsibility, said TSA.
For justice to be delivered, and to bring lasting peace and security in and around Moreh, the Government must take stringent punitive actions against the perpetrators.
The authorities concerned should immediately arrest all those involved in the attack and the masterminds behind, said TSA and cautioned that it will be forced to launch intense agitations until the perpetrators are arrested and punished.
Meanwhile, the Kuki Students' Organisation, Hill Tribal Council Moreh, Kuki Women's Union and Human Rights Moreh, Moreh Youth Club and TSA Chandel and Tengnoupal have also strongly condemned the uncalled attacks on civilians and demanded immediate arrest of the assailants involved.
