New Delhi, July 14 2018:
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has instituted a committee to look into allegations of administrative negligence and misuse of funds by Vice Chancellor of Manipur University Adya Prasad Pandey.
The probe panel, headed by UGC Joint Secretary JK Tripathy, was formed following an advisory from the State Government to the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
With students of the university on strike since May 31 demanding immediate resignation of Pandey as well an independent probe, the State Government suggested the HRD Ministry to send the VC on leave, apprehending law and order problem.
According to a senior HRD official, the Ministry will wait for the report of the inquiry panel before deciding on the future course of action.
The committee is likely to submit its report by the end of this month.
Pandey, a Professor of Economics at BHU, still has over three years left in his term.
