Body of 9-year-old girl who drowned in Zil River found, AMGSU extends help to surviving family

Body of a 9-year old girl from K Phaipijang Molkon village under Lhungtin sub-division in Saikul AC who was drowned in Zil River on July 10 was found early Saturday morning near Kopa Nepali village in Gangpijang-Utonglok area.
Monika Khadka (9), a Class III student of LM English School, Molkon Bazar, d/o of Man Bahadur (Mune) Khadka of K Phaipijang Molkon village was drowned in Zil River on July 10 afternoon at around 2.30 pm.
In the tragic incident, the mother of the girl, Chali Maya Khadka (32) was also drowned in her attempt to rescue her daughter.
The lifeless body of the poor brave mother was found the next day below Makokching suspension bridge in Saikul Hill Town and later she was laid to rest in the afternoon.
Monika Khadka's lifeless body was found floating in the river by the locals of Kopa Nepali village and its adjoining area at around 6.30 am and recovered her decomposed body.
Later, CSOs based in Saikul along with Saikul Police brought the body at her residence at K Phaipijang Molkon village.
Cremation ceremony was conducted in the afternoon.
Many CSOs including the All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union has expressed deep condolence .over the unnatural death of Chali Maya Khadka and her 9-year old daughter and expressed gratitude to all who helped the family in finding/locating the bodies.
Meanwhile, a team of All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union led by its president LB Adhikari visited the bereaved family and extended financial assistance and shared the pain and grief of the family.
It also expressed gratitude to the Khundrakpham MLA, Th Lokeshwar Singh for his every possible assistance during the search operation-arrangement of vehicles and meals for the rescue teams while extending heartfelt gratitude to Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkai, KSO Saikul, Dolaithabi GP, village chiefs, CSOs and everyone from Saikul areas for their help during the incident.
All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union appealed the concerned authorities and Government of Manipur to compensate the irreparable loss of surviving family members - Bahadur (Mune) Khadka and his two children.
The student body also expressed condolence to the bereaved families of landslide victims in Tamenglong.
