Imphal, July 14 2018:
Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur has condemned the lack of any positive actions from the side of the State Government regarding the inclusion of the Meitei community in the ST list of the Indian Constitution.
A press release issued by the secretary (organisation) of STDCM today stated that representatives of STDCM and the State Government held their first meeting on October 24 last year.
STDCM submitted numerous memos and even personally met Deputy CM Y Joykumar and Education Minister Th Biswajit repeatedly in connection with the issue of inclusion of Meitei community in the ST list.
However, even after more than 6-7 months, owing to the State Government's delaying tactics, no specific date has been set till now for a dialogue between STDCM and the State Government.
It further said that STDCM also submitted a memo to the Chief Minister regarding the development and for providing a chance to organise a meeting.
However, till date, even the Chief Minister has failed to provide any reply, it said and questioned if the State Government is against the inclusion of Meitei in the ST list or wants the movement to die on its own.
Demanding the authority concerned to take up necessary measures at the earliest, it informed that a sit in protest will be organised from 11 am to 3 pm of July 16 at Keishampat Lairembi Sanglen.
