UG killed, AR foils infiltration bid

Imphal, January 10 2012:
A fierce gun battle between troops of 22 Grenadiers and a UG group ensued last midnight near the Indo-Burma Border of Molcham village of Chandel district.
A UG cadre has been killed and three personnel of 22 Grenadiers were also injured in the gun battle.
Meanwhile a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S) further mentioned that 22 Grenadiers of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under IGAR (S) foiled a major infiltration bid today when a group of heavily armed underground cadres were intercepted while crossing the International border in Khumkot of Khengjoi area.
A hard core UG cadre has been killed in the incident and the troops recovered one lathode, one 7.62 mm pistol with magazine, one automatic rifle (broken), one 7.62 mm live round, one bushnell binocular and 10 Kg of white explosive, it added.
It is further mentioned that two other major infiltration bids by the UG cadres were earlier foiled on January 7 and December 24 .
The Assam Rifles has adopted an enhanced anti infiltration measures and continue to maintain a strict vigil on the activities of CorCom and is also determined to foil any attempt or activities which might disrupt democratic process in the State, added the release.
