Imphal, September 05 2020:
The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) submitted a memorandum to DGP LM Khaute on September 4 demanding disclosure of enquiry report in connection with the recent issue of awarding CM's Police Medal for Gallantry to an officer who is named in an ongoing major drug haul case.
According to the memorandum, on August 16, 2020, the DGP office issued an order constituting a three member committee headed by an Inspector General of Police to enquire into the "proposal for award for Chief Minister's Police Medal submitted by SP Imphal East District in respect of SI Bheishamayum Debson Singh, who has been awarded Chief Minister's Police Medal for Gallantry on the occasion of Independence Day on August 15, 2020" .
AMSU said the order categorically mentioned that "the committee shall submit its report to the undersigned within one week without fail" .
AMSU also submitted a representation to the Governor on August 17, 2020 urging her intervention to ensure that a High Level Inquiry Committee headed by a person not less than a retired Judge of the High Court be constituted and mandated to enquire into the matter.
"As almost three weeks have elapsed since your order, your good office must have received the inquiry report.
The public is eagerly waiting to see its findings.
AMSU requests you to kindly release the report immediately," the memo said.
If the report is not kept in public domain, AMSU said they will submit memorandums to the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister in the next one week.
