The Manipur MPs and MLAs Forum has demanded the amendment of Article 3 of the Constitution of India or incorporation of suitable provisions in the constitution for protection and preservation of the territories of Manipur and other states m the North Eastern region.
An urgent meeting of the Forum was held at New Delhi today to take stock of the situation in the aftermath of the withdrawal of the �provocative� ceasefire extension from Manipur and other states in the North Eastern region.
The meeting welcomed the centre's decision to roll back ceasefire extension and confined it to Nagaland only and maintain the status quo ante of June 14 Bangkok Agreement signed between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM).
The meeting also held discussions on various matters relating to democratic ways and means to bring about a lasting solution to the issue and other future course of action to get constitutional guarantee to safeguard and protect the territorial integrity of Manipur.
The Forum later resolved unanimously to reiterate its two point demand raised in the, joint memorandum submitted to Prime Minister Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee on July 19, which include amendment of Article 3 of the Indian Constitution and taking the state and its people into confidence on any issue during the course of the review of the centre-NSCN (IM) ceasefire.
