In escalating violence, unidentified gunmen shot dead a 42-year old man near Brahmapur Nahabam Leikai Hidangmayum Leirak Machin under Porompat police station of Imphal East district at around 7 am today even as police recovered body of a school teacher - slain on November 23 - from a jungle near Pangmol village, located about 5 kms south of Gamnom-Sapermeina PS.
The 42-year old man who was shot dead this morning has been identified as Yumlembam Geetchandra alias Geet of Keishampat Leimajam Leikai.
According to report, Geetchandra left behind three daughters.
He ran a canteen near the Hindi Parishad office building located inside the DM College campus.
The bereaved family members said Geetchandra was picked up by two unidentified persons who came on a motor cycle CBZ from the house at around 6.30 am today.
Police reportedly recovered four empty cartridges of M-20.There were three fatal bullet marks on his neck, back and chest.
The body has been handed over to family members after post-mortem at RIMS today.
Meanwhile, identity of the slain District Council school teacher has been established as Hemkhojang Haokip alias Ngamyang (35) of Pangmol village.
According to reports, Hemkhojang had gone out of the house on November 23 evening and was killed by the unidentified persons on the same day.
But his body was recovered only this afternoon.
A fatal bullet shot on left chin exited through the mouth.
Police recovered two empty cartridges of AK-47 along with a misfired bullet.
The body has been han ded over the family members after post-mortem at Kangpokpi PHC.
Body disposed off: The unclaimed body of an unidentified person recovered from the Kanglapat footpath on November 22 afternoon has been handed over to Imphal Municipalities for disposal after post-mortem today.
