The 10th Biennial Flora Fair, 2005 has begun at Bir Tikendrajit Park here from today.
Speaking at the inaugural function as chief guest, Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation Kh Kiran Kumar said that shortage of Marigolds in Manipur during the Diwali festival this year was due to lack of interest on the part of the floriculturists.
He maintained that farmers in Manipur could take up floriculture along with their normal agricultural activities for generating extra income.
In fact lot of people could earn their livelihood from floricultural activities, he said, adding anybody could take up this profession if they are interested.
A person from Bangalore is presently cultivating Enthurium in Mizoram and selling the bauquets of the said flowers and earning a decent income, he pointed out.
