Imphal, November 25 (NNN):
With Senapati district saying no to acquisition of land for taking up works under the Highway Patrolling Scheme along the National Highway-39 stretch from Imphal to Dimapur Road, the site for implementation of the scheme has been shifted to the Imphal-Moreh stretch.
Disclosing this to The Sangai Express, a reliable source informed that the Highway Patrolling Scheme to be taken up with funding from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), at an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore would be now implemented along Imphal-Moreh road, as the people of Senapati district, particularly some village chiefs have opposed to providing the land for setting up posts of the security personnel.
It is possible that the people of Senapati district have adamantly refused to part some tracts of the land for setting up the posts of the security personnel along the National Highway at the instigation of certain underground outfits, the source added.
With shifting of the site for implementation of the scheme, the State Government has finalised and designated the spots along the Imphal-Moreh road for setting up the posts of the security personnel, and the necessary construction works have been started according to the source.
The source further informed that the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has communicated to the State Government of its approval on sanctioning the requisite fund for constructing a road connecting all the villages located along the Indo-Myanmar areas on the Manipur sector as well as for road connectivity of the district headquarters.
