Imphal, April 25 2011:
Claiming that the Indian National Congress is a party formed by freedom fighters who struggled selflessly for independence from the British colonial rule, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has compared the BJP to the proverbial empty vessels making much noise.
Speaking at a special programme organised by the Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee at Congress Bhavan here on flagship schemes and other schemes of the SPF Government, Ibobi remarked what the BJP has been shouting and crying was nothing but empty vessels making noise.
Noting that BJP could not field a single candidate in the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat elections held a few months back, Ibobi stated that it was not only BJP, other national parties too could not put up a single candidate.
Claiming that only Congress candidates were contesting amongst themselves in the Nagar Panchayat and Municipal Council elections, Ibobi said in a satirical tone that he was gladdened to hear that BJP would be fighting against Congress in the forthcoming Imphal Municipal Council elections.
Stating that BJP had no role in the long freedom struggle of the country, Ibobi question, "how could they feel any love for the country ?" .
As for the INC, it is quite unique from all other national and regional parties.
It was during BJP's rule in the Centre that Manipur was literally set afire when the Indo-Naga cease fire agreement was extended 'without territorial limits', Ibobi recalled.BJP could not understand that these three words could burn Manipur.
Except for putting Manipur on fire, BJP did not took up a single development project in the entire region during their rule at the Centre, Ibobi asserted.
The NDA Government led by BJP did nothing to solve the insurgency problems of the North East.
As for the Congress, it is in records that it was this party which secured the Assam Accord as well as the Mizoram Accord.
At present too, the Congress party is working hard to bring peace in the entire North East region, Ibobi claimed.
The programme presided by MPCC president Gaikhangam was also attended by many Congress MLAs and party leaders.
