After an ecstatic week long event wrapped with a miscellany of different activities ranging from individual talent hunt, various games and sports, cultural appearance to the much awaited and enthralling fashion parade, a heavy-hearted emotion loomed large in the air here today as the campers of TKS' 28th meet and the local villagers exchanged farewell tokens.
SDO Tadubi Armstrong Pame (IAS) yesterday dehoisted the flag as chief guest of the valedictory function which was then followed by TKS extraordinary night.
Earlier in the afternoon, the chief guest in his speech emphasised upon the need to involve student organisations in politics.
"Students should be involved in politics because we are the pillars of future and if we don't take the good role that our society demands while we have the potential our future will be bleak and it would not be the dream we want to be," cautioned Pame.
Ruing over loss of many youths to sex, drugs, entertainment, the young IAS officer asserted that it should be a challenge for the TKS to compare the progress of the present and the last meet in the areas of education, employment, sports etc.
Let this conference show a way for the coming TKS meets, he wished.
Opining that period of youths can be both productive and destructive, Pame asked the students to pick up where they are in best.
Expressing his willingness to provide the books he had studied while appearing UPSC exam to every interested student, Pame also suggested that TKS opens an information centre at Ukhrul town to benefit especially those who are aspiring various competitive exams.
SDO Kasom Khullen Shyam Chandra Sharma (MCS) in his speech said electronic media should be encouraged to bridge the gap between past and present generation.
Appreciating the preservation of culture and tradition by the Tangkhul community, Shyam cautioned the students not to imitate the lifestyle of outsiders which can be a parasite to our society but to do things to boost our morale.
Speaking at the occasion, ATSUM president Thomas Thaishya said, "there has been so much change and we need to instill discipline, self-respect and understanding in us to lead our society towards the right path" .
Kuki Students' Organisation GHQ president Peter Mate said, "We need a sense of unity, love and prosperity" .
To make a society prosper, we need to ensure love, unity, progress and development, he added.
Former TKS president Turner Raihing also exhorted the gathering.
The 28th general conference cum sports meet of TKS was successfully marked by the presence of student leaders of various tribal communities with the overall team champion bagged by Zingtun Tangkhul Katamnao Long.
