Honoured agreement on Mt Koubru: COPPK, SAHILCA, CSOs Kpi

The Committee on Protection and Preservation of Mt Koubru (COPPK), Sadar Hills Chiefs' Association (SAHILCA) and various civil society organisations in Kangpokpi District held a joint meeting today at Saitu Kangpokpi district deliberating on various issues surrounding Mt Koubru.
The meeting was also attended by Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi district, Thadou Inpi-General Headquarters, Thadou Inpi Sadar Hills Kangpokpi district, Vaiphei People's Council Kangpokpi, Gangte Inpi Kangpokpi district, KWU Sadar Hills, KSO Sadar Hills, TSA Sadar Hills, Gangte Students' Organization Kangpokpi district, Zillai Kangpokpi district, KomRem Students' Organisation, etc.
After a lengthy discussion which ended at around 6:30 pm, Dr Lamtinthang Haokip, general secretary, COPPK said that some valley based organisations and the Chief Minister are spreading rumours that the local populace under the aegis of COPPK, SAHILCA and CSOs Kangpokpi are restricting entry of pilgrims at Mt Koubru.
"We have decided to clarify once again that there are no restrictions on pilgrims or worshippers climbing Mt Koubru," he added.
He then recalled that the Committee on Protection and Preservation of Mt Koubru, SAHILCA and CSOs of Kangpokpi and the Government representatives have on April 14 last agreed to refrain from surveying Mt Koubru until the issues surrounding it is amicably resolved.
Dr Haokip then charged the Government violated the agreement on several occasions.
The COPPK general secretary remarked that such violation on the part of the Government was never expected and it is very immature and undemocratic to have dishonoured the agreement.
He also asked all concerned who are propagating the issue of Mt Koubru issue in a different angle to understand the sentiments and emotions of the local populace to resolve the issue, contending that COPPK, SAHILCA and CSOs in Kangpokpi have no idea about the restriction placed on the pilgrims.
He also urged Chief Minister N.Biren Singh to purely maintain the status of 'people's CM' in the true spirit and initiate a peaceful dialogue to resolve the issue surrounding MT Koubru amicably.
Meanwhile, the Committee on Protection and Preservation of Mt Koubru stated that it along with representatives from SAHILCA and CSOs Kangpokpi will attend a Ministerial level meeting tomorrow at the invitation of the Government.
