Class X and XII board exams postponed, classes suspended

Imphal, April 19 2021:
To avert the second wave of COVID-19 and shield young students from the virus, the State Government has announced the postponement of the Class X board exams conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM) and Class XII board exams conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM) .
An official order towards this effect was issued by the Commissioner (Education S), today.
The Class X exam was earlier scheduled to start from May 6 while the Class XII exam was supposed to start from May 5 .
The decision of the State Government comes close on the heels of the Union Ministry of Education earlier (on April 14) deciding to cancel the CBSE Class X board exams and postpone the Class XII board exams till June 1 .
"Ministry of Education has decided to postpone the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 board exams and cancel Class 10 exams that were scheduled from next month.
"The decision was taken Wednesday after a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi," an official statement from the Ministry read, reported ThePrint.
Shortly later, the Council of Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), which conducts the ICSE (Class X) and ISC (Class XII) exams also announced the postponement of the exams.
A number of other Indian States too have either cancelled or postponed the Class X and Class XII board exams including Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Odisha, Telangana, Jammu and Kashmir.
The State Government has also suspended all physical classes from Class 9 to Class 12 of all Government, Govt Aided and private institutions/schools etc with immediate effect and until further orders in public interest.
The order came into effect in view of the 2nd wave of COVID-19 pandemic and increasing number of positive cases in the State during the last 2 weeks to avoid any unwanted consequences and to ensure safety of all students.
As a precautionary measure, it also notified that all coaching classes and private tuition centres as well as boarding and hostels in schools across the State will be closed with immediate effect.
The notice reiterated that no physical classes will be held for those students of Class 8 and below as notified earlier.
However online classes will continue as usual by the authorities concerned.
