National Deworming Day 2021 launched at Khangabok, CCpur

District Health Society Thoubal under the National Health Mission launched the 'National Deworming Day-2021' for Thoubal district at Khangabok Higher Secondary School in Khangabok today.
It was attended by Chief Medical Officer, Thoubal, Dr Y Nokul Singh and Khangabok Higher Secondary School Principal, Th Samungou Singh as presidium members.
During the programme, District Community Mobilizer, Md Riyas Sheikh welcomed the participants and explained the importance of observing National Deworming Day during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Dr Y Nokul Singh highlighted the role to be played by the teachers, Anganwadi workers, ASHAs and ANMs for successful implementation of the National Deworming Day to be conducted from April 19 to 28.He mentioned that about 1,04,980 children would be given Albendazole 400mg tablets to control worm infection.
It is an effective and safe drug approved by the World Health Organisation and is enlisted in the Government of India's essential medicines list, he added.
He highlighted the precautions to be taken during the NDD and urged both the staff and beneficiaries to maintain Covid appropriate behaviour while delivering Albendazole tablets during the door to door campaign.
Dr Y Nokul Singh further appealed to the parents/guardians of the children from the age group of 1-19 years to cooperate with the door to door visits by the ASHA/AWW/ANM.
'National Deworming Day' was also launched at Tuibong Government High School, Tuibong, Churachandpur by Churachandpur District Health Society today.
Four students were administered with deworming tablets during the programme by SDO Tuibong and CMO Churachandpur.
Similar programmes were also held at Saikot Community Hall and Mount Olive School Tangmual.
Sarath Chandra Arroju, IAS, SDO, Tuibong stated that deworming is an important issue particularly in a country like India where malnourishment is rampant.
Dr VumchinpaoTonsing mentioned that due to growth retardation, mental retardation and all sorts of deficiencies including anaemia and malnutrition, the Government of India is taking keen interest in generating awareness on worm infection and eradicating Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) in children aged 1 to 19 years.
Officials from the Education Department and Medical Department also attended the programme.
