Tension again at Jessami, Najma urged to ease situation

Villagers of Jessami have sought the immediate intervention of Governor Dr Najma Heptulla to restore normalcy at the border village of Ukhrul district following the act of aggression from Meluri village in Nagaland, who allegedly trespassed into Meluri village and cut down trees.
According to a statement issued by Jessami Village Council, the village guards of Meluri armed with weapons cut down trees by trespassing into the territory of Jessami village despite the village chairman and secretary approaching them to maintain and respect the traditional relationship for peaceful co-existence.
According to the statement, on April 12, village guards of Meluri, Nagaland numbering about 60-70 and armed with 303 Rifles intruded into the territory of Jessami and burnt down the forest violating the provisions of Village Act.
The Jessami villagers also mentioned that the area is a reserved forest.
The villagers after the incident and on the same day had registered an FIR at Jessami Police Station and informed the matter to the SDO and Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul.
The Jessami villagers also expressed apprehensiion that about 70 village guards of Meluri are patrolling inside the territory of Jessami village.
Despite the matter being highlighted to the district administration, so far there has been no response, alleged the representation to the Governor.
Residents of Jessami are apprehensive that if the situation is not brought under control, then violence may occur at the border region.
The Jessami villagers also sought the immediate intervention of the Governor to ease the tension and restore normalcy at earliest.
