Imphal, June 14 2012:
Like in the previous years, AMUCO today observed Protest Day at Kwakeithel Bazar community hall.
AMUCO has been observing the Protest Day in denunciation of the words "without territorial limits" affixed in the ceasefire agreement signed between the Government of India and NSCN-IM on June 14, 2001 .
Talking to media persons by the sideline of the sit-in-protest, AMUCO president KT Rehaman recalled that 66 hours general strike was observed all over Manipur starting from June 14 onwards in protest against the Bangkok Declaration of June 14, 2001 .
This was followed by the martyrdom of 18 people in the same month, same year.
In the face of the sustained and massive civil movement, the words "without territorial limits" were ultimately removed from the Bangkok Declaration.
June 18 is a constant reminder that it was people's united movement and courage which safeguarded the integrity of Manipur, KT Rehaman asserted.
Saying that AMUCO would be observing Unity Day on June 18 this year too, the AMUCO president informed that fitting tributes would be paid at the tombs of the 18 martyrs at Kekrupat starting from 8 am.
This would be followed by a public meeting at THAU Ground.
He also appealed to one and all to come and join the June 18 Unity Day observance.
