Imphal, June 14 2012:
Residents of Thongju Part I and II have resolved to take up measures to save the Amanbi river as the concerned authorities failed to pay any heed to the worsening condition of the river.
The river that originates in Singjamei AC flows through Langthabal, Thongju, Keirao, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa and various other regions to finally meet the Nambul river.
To add to the negligent ways of the authorities the river's condition is also threatened by the increasing number of land encroachers, thus adversely resulting in unnatural floods, putting in danger the lives of many during the monsoon season.
The locals jointly contributed funds from their pockets for the drive to clean the river, that covers around 4 km from Thongju Part I to Part II .
Contributing capital for the drive, MLA Thongjam Biswajit asserted that avant garde projects, under a long term policy, would be discussed with representives of the ACs covered by the area to recuperate the condition of the river, also ensuring that an appeal would be made to the concerned minister to undertake the developments.
The MLA stated that an appeal would be made to the concerned minister, after the monsoon, to look into the deteriorating condition of the Thongju road, although assuring that the pot holes on the roads of the AC would be repaired before the monsoon takes its toll.
