Imphal, January 11 2017:
In accordance with a country wide protest against demonetisation and digitisation organised by Trinamool Congress today, a mass sit in protest was held by the State unit of Trinamool Congress at the party's office at Mahabali.
Speaking to media persons, Trinamool Congress State Unit president Kim Gangte said that the digitisation and demonetisation move initiated by the Central Government should be revoked as most of the population of India consists of people who are illiterate, poor and work as labourers and daily wage workers.
She said that digitisation is impossible even in the context of Manipur as far off and hilly areas would have no facilities for such methods.
Most of the people who are earning daily wages have neither the idea nor the time to go to banks for depositing or withdrawing their money and not only that, there are even places where banks and banking facilities are not available, she added.
The demonetisation of Rs 500 and 1000 currency notes by the Centre last year has caused immense inconvenience and hardships to the people, Kim said speaking at the sit in protest which saw the participation of many activists and workers of the Trinamool Congress State Unit.
