International Observation Committee on Puya Meithaba (ICOP) released a poster today, in the light of the coming 288th Puya Meithaba remembrance day, at PANDAM's office at Wahengbam Leikai.
Speaking in front of media persons, Moirangthem Naokhamba Meitei (convenor of ICOP) said that the 288th Puya Meithaba remebrance day will be observed on January 20 at Kangla and urged the public to refrain from calling bandhs or blockades on the day.
He pointed out that as apart of the coming function, students of all the educational institutions in the State will wear black badges from January 15 to 17 as a sign of condemning the burning of the sacred books.
As a part of the function, Maichou Mana ,an award given to individuals who have contributed greatly to bringing unity in the State will be awarded to Sagolshem Ayangba (Pabitro) and Chingmi-Tammi Nungshi Lipun Mana, an award for individuals who have contributed immensely to bridging the gap between the hills and the valley will be given to Golmei Makuchung Kabui, he added.
"Rupmahal Theatre Artists will be performing a drama at their theatre and Manipur State Shumang Leela Council will also be organising a play called 'Kangleipak ta 1709' at Shumang Leela Shanglen on January 20 as a part of the function", he said.
ICOP chief convenor Namoijam Tomba and co-convenor Waikhom Gojen Meitei were also present at the meet.
