Imphal, November 09:
The Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long has levelled a series of corruption charges against the Zonal Education Officer and DDO of Ukhrul district.
In a statement, the TMNL said that though numerous representations have been submitted to the authority concerned no positive action has been taken up.
Levelling the charges, TMNL said that though a sum of Rs 6 lakhs was sanctioned for the construction of Block Research Centre at the sub-division headquarters, the construction work has not adhered to the blue print laid down by the Government.
The construction has been left half way with no signs of completing it, it alleged and cited the building at Kamjong as an example.
The TMNL also charged that provision of safe drinking water and construction of toilets in majority of the schools under the SSA have not been taken up at all and added that salaries to teachers under the Education Guarantee Scheme have not been paid from January 1 till date.
There are also no furniture, bench, desk, table, chair, blackboard and teaching aids in most of the schools.
Going further, the Tangkhul body alleged that for the mid day meal scheme the rice is supplied only in half bags and moreover the number of rice bags have also decreased.
Though the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) has full knowledge of all the discrepancies, no action has been taken, alleged TMNL.
The case of withdrawing Rs 3,28,833 for payment to two proxy teachers is being authenticated, said TMNL and added that the two regular teachers who have been attending their duty have not been paid their salaries since January 4, 2000.With regard to the alleged collection of Rs 1000 each from 385 employees under the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO), Ukhrul for NIC and MGEL duty at Imphal and deduction of 15 percent on the DA arrear from each staff of the ZEO, the TMNL alleged that though complaints have been lodged, nothing has been done till date.
Since the authority concerned has not taken up any befitting action despite the numerous representations, the State Government should take full responsibility for any untoward incident, warned TMNL.
