Imphal, November 09:
Against the failure of the State Government to restore District Council election in hill areas of Manipur which has been suspended since 1989, Manipur Hill's Autonomous District Council, MDC's/Ex-MDC's Welfare Association has submitted copies of a memorandum to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Minister of Tribal Affairs PR Kyndia.
According to the memorandum copy made available to the press, Chief Minister O Ibobi has been refusing to act in this despite repeated appeals and reminders.
Moreover, the Manipur Hill Areas District Council Act 2006 has also been revoked.
Stating that District Council is the only institution where tribals can exercise their democratic rights/franchise at grass roots level, the Association appealed to the Union leaders to look into the matter and to take up positive actions.
