7th Manipur Polo International championship to kick-off on Nov 23

The 7th Manipur Polo International which constitutes a key component of the annual Manipur Sangai Tourism Festival would kick off from November 23 at Mapal Kangjeibung.
Chief Minister O Ibobi who is also chairman of the 7th Manipur Polo International organising committee held a meeting with officials of the All Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association and discussed about the international polo championship.
Veterinary and Industries Minister K Govindas, MLA N Biren, Principal Secretary (Tourism) Rajesh Kumar and Art and Culture Commissioner Dr RK Nimai were also present at the meeting.
Altogether five teams�� two from Manipur, USA, Germany and Thailand�� would compete in the polo tournament which would conclude on November 28. The meeting deliberated on organising the 7th Manipur Polo International in an impressive manner.
It further decided to invite Prince William of England to the mega event scheduled next year in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the first modern polo (exhibition) match played between a Manipuri polo team and a British team at Calcutta in March 1868. It was also agreed to ensure that at least six foreign teams participate in the 8th Manipur Polo International next year.
Another agenda of the meeting was to initiate necessary steps so that Mapal Kangjeibung, the oldest existing polo ground in the world is declared as a world heritage site.
