Cultural shows to dominate Sangai festival 2013

In addition to presentation of cultural items by troupes from Myanmar and thailand, as well as Assam and Sikkim States, an overwhelming proposal is said to have been made by the Art and culture Department with the submission of 26 entries of cultural programmes.
According to a Department official, 26 cultural troupes have applied for performing during the 10-day festival out which a screening committee of the Department will trim the number of troupes based on the criteria of whether the troupes will encompass traditional art and culture of Manipur.
Emphasis would be on selecting cultural troupes capable of showcasing traditional dances, Nata Sankirtan, Thang-Ta and folk music.
While there is ongoing preparation for presentation of cultural items of Ukhrul, Chandel, Tamenglong, churachandpur and Senapati districts in between November 23 to 26, Department officials will finalise the programme at a later date, said the official adding that a Cultural Sub-Committee with Commissioner (Art & Culture) Dr RK Nimai Singh as the chairman and Director (Art & Culture) Dr K Sobita as the convenor has also been formed.
The opening day's itinerary also includes dance compositions by various choreographer based on Manipur's art and culture, maintained the official, further informing that Myanmar cultural troupes are scheduled to perform on November 23, with cultural shows of Sikkim set for November 23 and 24 .
