BJP demands white paper

The Chief Minister O Ibobi led Congress Government in the State should produce a white paper on the controversial border fencing work being carried out along the Indo-Myanmar International boundary as it failed to furnish the detailed report on the fencing work to the public, Thounaojam Chaoba, President of BJP Manipur State Unit, has demanded.
Addressing a press meet the party office located at Nityapat Chuthek here today, Th Chaoba alleged that the Congress Government in the State has misled the public all these years.
He said that the all party team visit to Delhi went in vain as the permission for carrying out the border fencing work was granted by the State Government already in 2007 and an amount of Rs 503.68 lakh taken as compensation by the State Government for the Yaingangpokpi Lokchao Wildlife Sanctuary which is to be affected by the border fencing.
Demanding immediate halt to the ongoing border fencing work and a survey of the lost border pillars, Chaoba asserted that there is no need for the report of the Drafting Committee which was constituted after an inspection visit of all political party led by Home Minister Gaikhangam to the disputed border areas.
Chaoba also denounced the statement of Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Gaikhangam, who claimed that no opposition parties have condemned the bomb blast at Hicham Yaicham Pat, Yaiskul.
Prof S Tikendra, who was also present during the press meet questioned the alleged hidden agenda and double standard of the State Government.
He announced that the BJP in its core committee meeting held today has decided to launching various intense agitations in collaboration with public on the issue of border fencing.
Dr RK Ranjan, who was also present on the occasion, pointed out that there is a norm under the United Nation (UN) that the displacement of wild life sanctuary must be done only with prior consent of the people.
He went on to say that being a member of the Wild Life Advisor Board, he was not invited in the meetings held to take core decision regarding the displacement of the wild life sanctuary.
