Deadline for Dolaithabi barrage set in Mar 2014

A high level team led by Irrigation and Flood Control Department Minister Ngamthang Haokip today surveyed Iril River at Yangnoi, 20 kms from Molkon under Saikul A/C of Senapati district for the construction of a dam.
Saikul A/C MLA Yamthong Haokip and IFCD officials accompanied the Minister.
The team also inspected Dolaithabi barrage, which has already consumed many years.
Ngamthang Haokip while expressing satisfaction over the progress of Dolaithabi barrage construction work said that the barrage would be completed by March next year.
The construction of a dam at Yangnoi under Iril Multi-Purpose Project envisages the construction of an earthern dam across Iril river, 35 km upstream of Dolaithabi and a diversion structure at Dolaithabi for the purpose of irrigation water to the identified command area of 5500 hectares in Imphal East district.
Another objective of the project is to supply 10 MGD of drinking water and generation of 15 MW of electricity.

The project is expected to generate 15 MW of electricity.
On the sidelines of the inspection tour, Ngamthang Haokip said the project has been proposed for the welfare of the people of the area.
He added, for the early start of construction works, the detailed project report (DPR) of the said project would be chalked out soon.
Ngamthang Haokip also expressed satisfaction on the progress of Dolaithabi project being undertaken by IFCD as a major agency.
Saying that even a Central Government team has already expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Dolaithabi project, Ngamthang Haokip said that serious efforts are being made to meet the deadline of March 2014 .
The Minister said that the State Government led by Chief Minister O Ibobi is making possible all efforts to bring equal progress in hill and valley areas.
While urging the general public to extend co-operation in this regard Ngamthang Haokip appealed all concerned not to disturb the construction works which are meant for the welfare of the general public.
Regarding the failure of Khuga Dam which has been reported in some sections of the media, the Minister clarified that there is no such issue with the dam.
He however admitted that there is some misalignment in the canal of the dam.
He also said that rectification of the said misalignment is in progress in war footing.
The team also inspected road and other infrastructure inadequacies of Saikul area.
