Imphal, January 07 2013:
Zeliangrong Cultural Council (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) - (ZCC-AMN) has announced that the Gaan-Ngai festival for the year 2013 would commence from 24th January and appealed to the Zeliangrong people to celebrate the festival on this particular day only.
In a statement, Chandra Haomei, Secretary of ZCC-AMN, said that certain calendars have indicated 13th day of Wakching of 2013 on two different dates; namely 24th and 25th January.
However, according to the traditional calculation of Zeliangrong, the festival begins from the first day of Wakching month (12th January) and the 13th day of Wakching falls on 24th January 2013 .
ZCC has accepted 24th January as the date to celebrate Gaan-Ngai festival for this season.
The Council, which is the apex and sole authority on Zeliangrong traditional religion and customs has written to the State Government to adjust the Gan-Ngai holiday accordingly, Haomei asserted.
