Kanghi festival revisits Maram historical legacy

Known for its preservation of ancestral history and customary practices till today, the originating village of Maram Tribe, Maram Khullen revisited its historical legacy of the 'naked wrestling' during the annual Kanghi festival which is observed during the ending of the customary calendar and welcoming the new year.
In the presence of hundreds of villagers drawn from all Maram areas, distinguished guests, media persons and wrestling enthusiasts, fully naked contenders from each of the three Maram Khullen village clans fought for pride and honor.
Women folks were allowed to watch the much anticipated customary game from permissible distance.
In the presence of Maram Khullen King Namba; Tadubi SDO Rang Peter, MCS; Deputy Commandr of 59th Mountain Brigade Col.V.Madan; ,Maram Union President Raisong, village elders, Maram Social leaders and Officers, the Kanghi festival concluded with the prestigious wrestling, war cry from clan wise and a competitive long jump.
Ending the two-day long festival of welcoming the ancient calendar, the 'mass naked bathing' signifying cleansing of one's body to welcome the New Year for prosperity, was done in the afternoon and it was followed by feasting.
Thanks to the annual customary practices and festivals organized by the Village elders in collaboration with its King, the historical practices of Maram customs continue to live on alive and strong in its ancestral village.
