Imphal, December 06:
The Sadar Hills bandh and the proposed economic blockade called by the Thadou Students' Association against the death of a woman in the encounter between police commandos and KLA cadres at Sipiyang village under Gamnom Sapermeina police station have been called off.
TSA had earlier called Sadar Hills bandh from 6 pm of December 5 till 6 pm of December 6 to be followed by economic blockades along NH-39 and NH-53 demanding termination of the commando personnel involved in the killing of the woman.
Speaking to reporters today at Motbung Bazar, president of TSA Lamminlun Singsit disclosed that the decision to suspend the bandh and the proposed economic blockade temporarily was taken after an agreement was signed between the State Government and the JAC constituted in connection with the killing.
He said that bandh and economic blockade would be reimposed if the State Government fails to fulfil the agreement.
He further said that the schedule of the bandh and blockade would depend on the response of the State Government.
The main points of the agreement signed between the JAC and the State Government were institution of a Departmental enquiry into the incident, termination of the involved commando personnel in case they are found guilty, extension of ex-gratia benefit to the family of the deceased and provision of a Government job to a family member of the deceased.
