Under the aegis of Committee on Anti-Drug and Alcohol, volunteers of Nongchup Imphal Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (Nimpal) and Nongchup Imphal Loumi Shinmee Chaokhat Thourang Lup would launch intense anti-drug and anti-alcohol drive at Phayeng and Tairenpokpi areas.
Activists of the bodies speaking at a meeting held at Sagoltongba Lanshonbi Bazar today exhorted Phayeng and Tairenpokpi residents to limit their alcohol brewing activities for religious use only rather than on commercial scale.
With the support of adjacent villagers these bodies would extend its anti-liquor campaigns to Phayeng and Tairenpokpi villages, said the speakers who also took part in destroying over 85 litres of liquor seized in the past few days.
They also identified four persons from whom the liquor consignment were confiscated as Oinam Keshorjit (44) of Sagoltongba Makha Leikai, K Laibi Devi (40) of Khabi Sabaltongba Kabui village and Angom Sana Ibemcha (40) and A Pipik Singh of Tairenpokpi Maning Leikai.
On the other hand four persons found selling alcohol and abusing SP tablets have been arrested during a specific drive conducted by volunteers of UPF Singjamei Zonal Council under the aegis of CADA.
Apart from sealing a shop found selling the liquor a rickshaw has also been confiscated by the anti-liquor campaigners.
The arrested persons have been named as Potsangbam Tomba (45) of Kwakeithel Moirang Purel, Moirangthem Hemanta (32) of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai, Athokpam William Singh of Singjamei Wangma Kshetri leikai and Kshetrimayum Surkumar alias Koko (32) of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai.
Surkumar is informed to be a liquor seller while Tomba is charged for ferrying the banned substance and indulgence in the same as well, and William for abusing SP tablets.
