Imphal, November 06 2016:
Student Wing of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) which has been spearheading the demand for introduction of a mechanism to restrict the inflow of non-local people into the State is all set to launch another round of agitation to pressurise the State Government to introduce a new Bill for the protection of the people.
Addressing media persons the office of JCILPS located at Sega Road, Imphal, today, JCILPS Student Wing convenor Moirangthem Lakshman said that the State Government has turned a deaf ear to the people's demand for introduction of a Law or an Act to check the influx of illegal migrants from neighbouring States and country.
On August 22, during a conference held at MDU Hall, Yaiskul, attended by experts, stakeholders and others, certain resolutions were reached.
The resolutions were incorporated in a new model draft Bill which JCILPS submitted to the State Government on August 29 .
Again on October 7, JCILPS had another round of talks with the State Government urging the same to include all the demands put forward by the committee.
The State Government yet again failed to take up positive steps, Lakshman said.
He alleged that the State Government has been trying to defame the genuine steps of JCILPS Student Wing which is spearheading the mass movement.
"The movement of the people should not be challenged by the State Government as it would only lead to a more chaotic scenario", Lakshman said.
Delaying tactics played by the State Government will only lead to more severe form of protests, he warned while urging the State Government to call an emergency Assembly Session wherein the new draft Bill can be passed.
The JCILPS Student Wing along with students from different schools, colleges and university will launch a series of protests against the State Government for ignoring the plight of Manipuri people,
he added.
