Paban Kumar's film set for Busan Film Fest

Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Haobam Paban Kumar's first Manipuri feature film, 'Loktak Lairembee' (Lady of Loktak) will be premiered at the 21st Busan International Film Festival to be held from October 6 to 15 in South Korea.
Addressing a press conference at the preview theatre of Manipur State Film Development Society, Paban Kumar said that the 71-minute film portrays the story of Tomba who resides in a Phumshang (hut built on floating biomass in Loktak lake) .
He said that the film depicts the hardships faced by Tomba, his family and other villagers when the authority burn down their huts and evict them from Phumdis (floating biomass) in the name of cleansing Loktak lake.
Paban Kumar said that he took around one year in filming 'Loktak Lairembi' .

Manipur State Film and Television Institute Director Nilotpal Majumdar said that few filmmakers get the chance of premiering their films in the festival.
Stating that Busan International Film Festival is one the popular film festivals of the world, Majumdar said that Paban Kumar would be able to promote his film to the world through the festival.
DIPR Director and film critic Meghachandra Kongbam said that Manipur is leading in the production of quality films among the North East States.
Filmakers used to set their target to enter Indian Panorama in the past, he said and added that the focus has now been shifted to International festivals.
Ningthoujam Sanatomba and Sagolsem Thambalshang are the main casts of 'Loktak Lairembee' while the story and screenplay was written by Sudhir Naoroibam.
Sankha, Sukanta Majumdar and Shehnad Jalal are the editor, sound engineer and cameraman of the film respectively.
The film is produced and directed by Haobam Paban Kumar.
