Rongmei CSOs serve ultimatum

In connection with the assault on some womenfolk by security forces and arrest of two youth from Sibilong by Assam Rifles on the charge of being NSCN-K cadres who were involved in snatching weapons from Manipur Rifles personnel, some Rongmei civil society organisations have served an ultimatum to Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam.
Setting a deadline on September 10 to fulfil their demands, Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM), Rongmei Lu Phuam (RLP), Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation Manipur (RNYOM) and Rongmei Students Organisation Manipur (RSOM) jointly served an ultimatum to the Deputy Chief Minister yesterday.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today on behalf of the four CSOs, RLP president Panti Golmei said that they would be compelled to launch all kinds of agitation if their demands are not fulfilled by September 10 .
Kabigai Gangmei (27) and Namkhaulung Gangmei (29) who were apprehended from their respective homes in the night of August 31 by AR troops on the charge of being NSCN-K cadres who were involved in snatching weapons from MR personnel were not connected with the particular militant group in any manner.
PIB(DW)'s statement which made the same claim was also rejected by NSCN-K.The four CSOs also condemned the assault on womenfolk by security forces who were protesting the arrest of the two youth.
A joint team of the four CSOs visited Sibilong yesterday and it was learnt that 22 women suffered injuries in the assault.
Out of them, 12 were taken to Nungba PHC while one who sustained grievous injuries is currently undergoing treatment at RIMS.
In the absence of woman police personnel, the AR troops molested some women while many others were physically assaulted, Panti Golmei alleged.
People of both Sibilong Part I and Part II are still suffering from trauma although it is the busy season for paddy cultivation.
The ultimatum served today demanded befitting action as per law against the security personnel who assaulted the womenfolk and payment of adequate compensation to all the injured victims.
Even though it has not been decided yet, the four CSOs may resort to bandh and blockade if their demands are not fulfilled within the deadline.
